VinNostro 2006 Old Clone Primitivo (Zinfandel)
GOLD MEDAL WINNER,
2008 NORTH OF THE GATE WINE COMPETITION!
Bright violet and concentrated berry fruits complimented by mild acidity and soft tannins for a well-balanced, easy-drinking food-friendly wine. I would go as far as to say you could even chill this wine down for the warm summer BBQ. Just bottled in March 2008.
All grape varieties have an origin - a place that they first were discovered to be planted. Many of the most popular varietals (i.e. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah – and many others) come from France. This is one of the main reasons French wines are so highly regarded as their contribution of premium varietals are the main influence in most of the great wine regions of the world.
California has long claimed Zinfandel as its very own - the only grape we believed to have originated in the soils of the Golden state. But several years ago studies from the UC Davis Enology Department showed otherwise. Their discoveries now show that Zinfandel actually comes from the clone "Primitivo" - a variety of grape from Italy's southern region Puglia.
Being a first generation Italian it was only fitting that in 2006 I stumbled across a vineyard in Dry Creek Valley grafted from original Primitivo clones from Puglia. Zinfandel has always been a focus of the VinNostro portfolio as its diversity in styles is so intriguing - raspberry to dried fruits/pruny, mineral to peppery/spicy, soft & light to full bodied. Our Zinfandels have always been a favorite of our VinClub Members and we hope you all will enjoy our new 2006 Zinfandel O.C.P - Old Clone Primitivo.
